GRAU DATA has certified COMBACK’s ARION Tape Library for its scalable object storage software, XtreemStore. This enables companies and organizations to store their archive data quickly, easily, and—most importantly—at a low total cost of ownership (TCO) on COMBACK tape systems using XtreemStore.

The GRAU DATA XtreemStore and COMBACK LTO Tape Library solutions combine the simplicity of an S3 cloud interface with the low operating costs of LTO tapes. This provides companies and organizations with an alternative to expensive cloud solutions that ensures both scalability and data sovereignty.

Solution Combination Made in Germany

COMBACK distributes its tape libraries, produced in Germany, worldwide through sales partners. GRAU DATA has developed XtreemStore, a third-generation object-oriented archiving software. XtreemStore has implemented an S3 Glacier interface. This allows all applications certified for S3 Glacier to archive data to tape. XtreemStore is an extremely scalable software solution for archiving billions of objects. It writes TAR containers to LTFS, a global standard that makes customers independent of archiving software in the long term.

In addition, XtreemStore also supports file versioning and ObjectLock, thereby covering potential compliance requirements.

The close cooperation between GRAU DATA and COMBACK now enables customers to install a true on-premises S3-to-tape solution. The data remains under the customer’s control while simultaneously reducing the total cost of ownership.

The COMBACK ARION is a scalable rack-mounted tape library that, when fully expanded, can be configured with up to 640 tape slots and 16 LTO-FH drives. The tape library is ideally suited for long-term storage, archiving, and data backup of large data volumes. It supports both full-height and half-height LTO drives.
